This actitvity was done during one of the lesson during class this term. It was said to help our class when we are at the stage of painting our masks.
Balance is one of the principals of art, and there are two different type of balance; asymmetrical and symmetrical balance.
The difference between asymmetrical and symmetrical balance is;
- when an art piece is asymmetrically balanced it is typically off-center or is created with an odd or mismatched number of disparate elements. However, you could still have an interesting design even without a perfect symmetry.
- While a symmetrically balanced art piece is when it is seen perfectly centered or has perfect mirror images. It would be a design which has only two elements that would be almost identical or have the same visual mass.
After understanding the principal balance, Mrs Vincent had made the whole class do some acticitives with the principal balance. But First Mrs Vincent had explain what is a proper asymmetrical balanced piece of work and a symmetrical piece of work. When the whole class had fully understood what we were ment to do in that lesson we were on our way. Everyone was told to get 2-3 pieces of different coloured paper and was also told to make a symmetrical and an asymmetrical balanced piece of work. We got the chance to cut out shapes from the different coloured pieces of paper and then glue those shapes into our Art visual dairy, but making sure that it was asymmetrically balanced or symmetrically balanced.
From my point of view I had found that making a symmetrically balanced piece of work was much easier than an asymmetrically balanced piece. At first I had no ideal what I was ment to be doing and was doing everything wrong, ..... but when I had asked for help from Mrs Vincent I had finallly understood what the difference was! ^^ I had helped some of my friends as they too found it hard to understand the difference betweent the two types of balance. After I had created my symmetrically balanced and asymmetrically balanced piece of work and had made sure it was balanced. I finally guled the pieces into my book and had a small discussion on balance. Therefore today in art I had learnt something about one of the principal of art and had learnt the difference between both asymmetrical and symmetrical balance. Overall I found it a fun lesson and I enjoyed that lesson.
